No, I dont think so. They were more of 'role' players for the Lakers. Without Magic,Kareem,Worthy.......they were basically nobodies. Though they served important roles they were by no means worthy of having their jerseys retired. Thats almost to say that someone like John Paxson should have his jersey retired for hitting big 3's for the Bulls during the Jordan(Pippen) era.

As far as we know Byron Scott is a great person and Michael Cooper is a good guy. But, yeah, they are not hall of fame contenders. Cooper played great defense and was a positive influence on the team. Byron was so fundamentally sound and had a great jump shot. He also was a loyal friend. I could go on forever about both men (who truly define the word). We were lucky to watch those Lakers. Wish Cooper jersey was easier to find lol

Byron Scott is extra comprehensive participant than Michael Cooper Byron Scott is a extra desirable scorer and a extra desirable shooter yet Michael Cooper is a extra desirable passer and defender than Byron Scott. So i might opt for Byron Scott.

I'm suprised Michael Cooper hasn't had his jersey retired already.
Coop's contribution to the Lakers goes beyond stats. Nobody did a better job of limiting Larry Bird's scoring than Cooper. Without him, the Celtics probably would have won in 1985.
I wouldn't exactly call them nobodies. They knew their roles and stuck to them. I can remember a few games where both of them came up big.
They did, however, benefit from having Magic as a teammate. He made everyone better.

no and no.
if you retired jerseys for all the players in the Lakers' history that contributed on the level of those guys, Kobe's jersey would be the letter 'K', and refs would have to learn sign language to call fouls.

No disrespect to either of those guys, who are becoming good coaches now, but, no, they do not deserve having jerseys retired. They are not game-altering players, but good role players.

No. They were just role players, but if they do make it, it would make a great argument for Robert Horry when his time comes.
