My husband and I are going to get our baby baptized in June. Our plan was to do an afternoon service, borrow the community hall, and make up some sandwich platters to invite our close friends to after for lunch (about 50 people). The plans have changed- now the baptism will not be until 6pm-7pm... So what should we do afterwards? Any ideas?

We live in Italy (we are American) so we can't have it catered or anything. We don't have other options to change the service either.

Thanks

You could do a get together before the baptism. My nephew was baptized in the evening and they just did a luncheon thing prior to the baptism.

I agree with previous poster.
I know from visits to relatives, that Sunday, many folks often eat a heavy long lunch. Therefore you might be better off doing desserts preceded by some light appetizers like fruit and cheese. Could a restaurant that's open on Sunday help you out by preparing some trays of things for you that you could then pick up yourselves? They might also have suggestions on the best type of food to serve at that time of day. Is there a restaurant that you frequent that you could ask this as a favor? Some restaurant owners in Italy would bend over backwards for a good loyal customer.

At that late, most people will probably have already eaten dinner. If there's a church hall, you could just have everyone move to there after the baptism for cake and coffee.

Have the party before the baptism or another day.

How about a barbeque? Since it'd be early summer, it'd be warm enough for one. Grill up some different kinds of meat and just serve "picnic" type foods with them.
