One of the cheapest places to buy at the moment is certainly the Costa Blanca.
South of Alicante may be ideal near Santa Pola, La Marina, Guardamar del Segura or Torrevieja.
The nearest airport is Alicante.
Once you move to Spain - if that is your intention - make sure, when you buy a house, you register at the local town hall and sign on the "padron" which is the Spanish equivalent of the electoral register.
Why do you want an English school in Spain?
They teach Spanish in the schools here!!

Murcia Airport (actually in San Javier) is only 20mins from Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa; Alicante is about 45 mins in the other direction. There are a couple of English schools but be prepared to pay. Most of the Spanish schools in the ex-pat areas have a very high percentage of British kids as well as Germans and Scandinavians. It is amazing how quickly these kids pick up Spanish and the teaching staff are accustomed to pupils from other countries.
The property market is good at the moment for buyers and there is a lot of choice even at 100K pounds. However, I would really recommend that you rent for a few months first, then you can find out the lie of the land and avoid some of the pitfalls that many of us have made at great expense. You'll also have a better idea of desirable areas to live, which schools are suitable for your kids and what prices one should pay for a house.
The Costa Blanca is a lovely area and just a short drive can take you to many interesting and beautiful places. But please, do try and learn some Spanish, even a little goes a long way with the locals.
Good Luck!

I understand your wifes position and feeling out of place. I also understand your mothers feelings in the matter as well. There is a certain amount of rudeness and disrespect in speakin a nother language in someones home. Now if your wife is in your home then that is different. She should be free to speak as she is comfortable doing. I would make the trips to your mother short ones till your wife is better at the english. Also if you eat there your wife could offer to attempt to do the dishes or some effort in cleaning. That usually is a good ice breaker. When it comes to your wife there is no such question as to what you do about your wife. She's your wife and she and her feelings and well being are and should be your first thought. If you feel your wife is wrong in any way then talk to her about it when you are both alone.

Think twice. You will not get free medical care after the first 2 years out there and because you have moved will not be entitled to free ttreatment back in the uk either. If you do move then take out full medical insurance. Having said that why do you want to move to Spain and send your children to an English school?

If you are going to be resident in Spain, why not try registering your kids in a Spanish school? This would aid them in their integration and provide a second language.
You wouldn't want to be accused of not adhering to 'Spanish' values would you? Bloody foreigners.
