has any one got any tips on growing birds from seed?

you should have sat on the seeds like hens do

If you get where you can grow birds from seeds, you will be in the market for somthing. That will also do away with the age old saying, which came first the chicken or the egg. Your way we will know the seed came first.

You may have used the wrong seeds. Bet you bought it at the pet shop too. I tried that and it didn't work for me either!
Bird seeds are quite large and oval and you have to be very careful when planting them as they break easily and then don't grow. If I succeed this year I'll be sure to let you know.

you need the fresh eggs that birds lay,keeping them at a evan temp turning for up to 28 days, don't plant them outside in the soil,keep the plants outside the birds will enjoy them when they seed and the insects

Yes ... you should let the plants go to seed and then the birds will flock to your plants because you have food for them..... canary seed mix for canaries (especially in the canary islands) and things like that... ok?

no but some of the plants are not bad when smoked
