BMW cars are not called "beamers." Their bikes are called "beamers" the cars are called "bimmers." Hence, "bimmerforums.com" and the like. The name comes from an English term used after WWII, remember, they have accents that do not sound like American accents.

BMW car = bimmer
BMW bike = beamer

BMW cars are bimmers and BMW motorcycles are beamers. The names are just slang.

They're called 'beamers' coz they make you beam when you own one. It's surprising how many people stop to let you through when they see the BMW badge coming towards them...respect.
