Group B Strep is only present in the vagina and anus. So it perfectly fine to breastfeed or formula feed. My daughter's drinks Similac Advanced w/ Iron (powdered) and the total cost is $156 a month. But there are cheaper name brands and even cheaper store brands.

My understanding of GBS is that it's really only a danger to the baby during birth, but I could be wrong. In general, though, I highly recomend breastfeeding. It's healthier, promotes bonding, free, always ready and help you lose a ton of weight. Some women really want to breastfeed but can't for medical purposes, so I'm not trying to judge anyone. If you do decide to breastfeed, get ready for some sore nipples,(at first anyway), and invest or rent a pump, trust me, you'll be glad you did when you want to go somewhere without your baby for a while. As far as the monthly cost of formula goes, each tin is around 12 bucks. After I stopped nursing and my son was both eating solids and drinking formula, we went through probably five tins a month.

Can I breastfeed my baby if I am group B strep positive?

Yes. Women who are group B strep positive can breastfeed safely. There are many benefits for both the mother and child.

cost of formula? that depends on the babies age. the 12 ounce cans start around $13 but that is just regular isomil or similac. my sister-in-law had twins and their daughter had to drink a special formula that cost $25 for the 12 ounce can. so the more they drink, the more monthly costs. It is expensive. We used formula with all 3 of our kids(I do not produce milk). WIC is a very good thing ot look into. They will provide you with so many cans a month. Good Luck.

Yes, you can and should nurse your baby :) I was GBS + with child number 1 and negative with both #2 and #3. It isn't a permanent state...it can come and go. I nursed all 3 of my children. Group B doesn't come into play in breastmilk at all. The only danger wtih Group B was if you gave birth without knowing you have it. Since you have it, you will be treated with IV antibiotics and the baby will be fine. After baby gets the clean bill of health - you don't need to ever worry about it again.

Group B has nothing to do with breast milk. It's a bacteria that most women have and isn't normally harmful. Except, to a newborn.

The big jar at SAMS club is $25. That lasts my 10 month old one week. I think a newborn might be the same. He eats 8 oz every 5 hours (4 times a day). And, nothing at night. So at least plan on one container per week. You may need more depending how much your baby eats and eats at night.

Breast is best. It helps fight infections and is great brain food!

I somewhat have 3 babies and that i breastfed my first one and then my 2d and third I pronounced "NO way!" With my 2d newborn I had the Strep B and had to positioned on an antibiotic for the duration of hard artwork . do no longer enable anybody tension you to breastfeed. this is a private determination and it is your physique. My 2 different babies are fit than my first that I breastfed. i replaced into on no account instructed any ingredient approximately breastfeeding and the link to strep b. They continually say that breastfeeding is the suited and that i'm useful this is yet don't experience tension to do it. You do what's sweet for you by using fact in extra circumstances in case you felt tension to breastfeed and not doing it by using fact which you go with for to, the newborn might p.c.. up on that and not feed stable besides. So what's sweet for you is interior the top is what is going to be suited to your infant. stable success with each little thing and happy bottle feeding? i be attentive to i replaced into plenty happier with the bottle!

You should breast feed. Formula costs $100+ per month, more as the baby gets older and eats more.

It is totally safe to breast feed. Group B strep is found in the vagina and anal cavaties. Most people wouln't know they have it until they have kids and are tested for it b/c it can cause pneumonia and bacterial menagitus if passed during birth. I was GBS positive and I breast fed and my son is doing awesome! Good Luck.

on the breast feeding; three words... ASK YOUR DOCTOR!

for formula, it really depends on how old your baby is. newborns typically take 2 - 4 oz each feeding but older ones will take 6 - 8. it would also depend on how often your baby eats.
