if you are referring to red faces when we either get hot or exert ourselves, this happens because blood capillaries in your cheeks dilate to allow the blood to be nearer the surface. this allows the blood to cool down quicker, as it loses heat through the skin and this way cools down. similarly, when we are cold, the body tries to conserve heat by contracting the blood vessels, which is why cold people generally look pale. other ways the body keeps cool is sweating. haven't you noticed how when it's summertime, you tend not to go to the loo so much? this is because the body is losing moisture through the skin. in the winter, water isn't lost through the skin so we go to the loo more often. i only mention this because i have noticed that my mother tends to go through loo paper like no body's business during winter, and during summer we seem to have More than we know what to do with! i hope this helps :)

Alcohol can dilate the blood vessels and capillaries in the face, and elsewhere, as well. That's why frequently in old cartoons drunks were depicted with red noses. Alcohol also can cause esophageal varices---varicose veins in the esophagus, and many other complications. It causes brain, kidney and liver damage, as well when used in excess.
