Ok, most of these answers are just mean and stupid. I had friends who used to do that. People cut themselves when they are depressed because the physical pain distracts them from their emotional distress. It becomes addictive. Your friend should probably seek professional help but something you can do would be to just talk to him and tell him that you are worried about it and that if he needs to talk to someone, you'll be there for him. Don't judge him. He needs friends to listen to his problems.

I'm not sure you can do anything. Cutting is your friends way of reducing the pain of a much more serious problem. Cutting temporally takes his mind off the mental trauma he's experiencing. See if he will consider getting professional help. If not, you have the responsibility to report his behavior to the authorities before he hurts himself. I know this sounds like betrayal, but if that's what it takes to keep your friend alive, then so be it. If anything serious happens to him, that you could have prevented, you will never forgive yourself. That's not the type of mental burden you need to carry. Good luck!

You can't make him stop, you're going to have to tell someone. Get him some help. He may have to go to a mental hospital for a while but it's better then him not having a life at all. TELL SOMEONE AND SOON!!!

Be supportive and encourage him to get professional help. There must be an underlying reason. Can you find out what that is and help him change it or come to terms with it? You are helping him by being concerned. Just talk to him.

ask him to stop for you. and if he don't honey call the law out there and they can stop him. it is not good if he is cutting on himself. he can bleed todeath if he hits the right spot. get him on prozac or something honey he won't last much longer if he keeps this up.

Either beat the hell out of him like my friends do to those type of people, tell him to stop or you will start doing it to yourself, or the one almost guaranteed way to work is to drink his blood either during or after the cut.
