They are all nouns except lambaste, which is a verb.

er..........you can find two overlapping words inside each of them? hockey=hock-key, decoration=decor-ration, lambaste=lamb-baste, misspelling=miss-spelling, signature=sign-nature, taciturn=tacit-turn, threshold=thresh-hold?

They can all be separated into two separate words, i.e. Hock and Key, as reported in Marilyn Vos Savant's column in yesterday's Parade magazine.

This is a wild guess but all of the words have another word at the end. Like hoc...key deco....ration mis...spelling sig....nature taci...turn thres...hold. I'm probably wrong...
