I heard that certain appliances like washers and dryers may not be included in the appliance allowance. What I was told is it is for stoves and fridges. Can anyone tell me if this is true and why that may be? If it helps I am considring purchasing a home in Nebraska. Thanks!

Also, how does it work when you get an allowance, does the seller give you the money to go out and buy what you need?

I'm a Realtor in MD and here you could use it for any appliance you want unless it's specified otherwise in writing. I know laws vary from state to state so I would check with your Realtor.

An appliance allowance, as far as I know, is basically a discount on the purchase price to help you replace the appliances the seller plans on taking with them when they move. I do not believe there is a restriction on what you can purchase with the money as it is still yours.

"allowance
A budget offered by builders of new homes for the purchase of carpeting and fixtures."

You can buy a hot air balloon if you want to.

Just take it as a financial credit. Unless you are buying from a new home builder who is going to have to install new stove and fridge to close the deal.

Otherwise, it's just money that comes back to you. In fact you just take in less money at closing, by the amount of the credit.

Best of luck,

It's basically for refrigerator, stove, washer and dryer--the big appliances.

It's an incentive to encourage the sale.
