Check Consumer reports and you will find only three manufacturers that are worth your attention. Toyota/Lexus/Scion Honda/Acura or Subaru. These three make everyone else look like amateurs.

Any new motor could be broken in. If achieveable, force conservatively for 3000-5000 miles. in case you have have been given to run it annoying then build it up slowly. in case you have already finished it then, its probably broken in. the phobia is working the hot engine annoying will harm countless the gaskets before they're lubed and worn sufficient to deal with a lot of rigidity.

For the "common" person, GMC, specifically Chevrolet is your best buy. It has relative good resale and is repairable in almost any town you might break down in.
A couple of the foreign cars are pretty good to, but you are talking to a Chevrolet man.

BMW is the best overally... yet pricey!
Toyota's and Honda's are damn good cars too. Gas milage/ look/ resale value... good luck!
