Well its all about personal preference really, these are the top listed jobs for each career (excluding the Livin' Large expansion):
Business = Business Tycoon $1,200
Entertainment = Superstar $1,100
Law Enforcement = Captain Hero $700
Life of Crime = Criminal Mastermind $1,100
Medicine = Chief of Hospital Staff $850
Military = General $650
Politics = Mayor $750
Pro Athlete = Hall of Famer $1,300
Scientist = Mad Scientist $870
Extreme Career = International Spy $925
Now for best job its all about your choosing, since remember all jobs have varied times they leave and come home from work, they vary in salary all the way up their career differently, each sims need decreases differently to.
But don't look to heavily in it, its the Sims, just relax and have fun with it :)

Without a doubt the hacker career path. the highest promotional level (information overlord) pays a hefty 1550 dollars a day, and you only need eight friends, so it is relatively easy to attain
