Some will say Jimi....but if you actually research Jimi.....he only had a few good songs and most base him on those. He is by far way over rated.
Back in the late 80's MTV did a world wide vote and Yngwie Malmsteen was ranked no.1. CC from Poison was actually ranked no. 2. And if you look at his work minus Poison, he is pretty damn good I must say.
Others think Clapton cause he can make a guitar talk. Eric Johnson, Steve Vai are both good as well.

i am the hottest guitar player of all time! jimi hendrix was the best guitar player of all time! the person who said jimi is over rated was an idiot...he really meant that HE only knows a few of his songs and HE is basing his opinion on them! ignorance at its finest! probly thinks kurt cobain is th grreastest guitar player of time i mean he DID know 3 chords and that's amazazing!

He changed guitar playing. He did things people still can't do the way he did them. No one played like him. Music people have been playing for the last thirty years with rock guitar has been influenced by Jimi. Heavy distortion, feedback, the wawa pedal and intense sound and creativity.
And don't forget Carlos Santana, Jerry Garcia, and Eddie Van Halen(all influenced by Jimi).
