He's probably better than any other tennis player that has ever lived. Before, it was Sampras, but according to most experts Federer is now the cream of the crop.

I googled "top ten tennis players of all time" and you will see Federer sitting at the number one spot (and Sampras as number two) on almost every list.

I don't think you can make a true comparison with Federer and older players such as Macenroe/Lendl/Sampras/Connors because none of them have played each other at the prime of their careers. Also, Connors/Lendl/Macenroe played the majority of their careers with wooden rackets on mainly grass courts and clay courts, so they would have been unable to play at the same level because of the technological differences. I think the only sort of comparison you can possibly use are the achievements of the respective players. Connors was world number one for 160 consecutive weeks, yet only won 7 grand slams. Agassi won 8 grand slams, yet could be describe as the most consistantly great player, finishing in the top 10 for all except 2 years between 1988 and 2005. Sampras won 14 grand slams, yet hardly achieved any great results on clay. Lendl won 9 grand slams, yet was notorious for choking in finals (which is generally the sign of a week player). Federer, who has now won 10 grand slams and will overtake Connors record for most consecutive weeks at number one has achieved everything in tennis barring Pete's 14 grand Slams and the French Open. Eventually, Federer should reach Pete's record and the French Open to statistically become the all-time greatest player, however you cannot really say he is better than Connors/Macenroe/Lendl/Agassi/Sampras, as they will never play each other in their prime.

no Sampras would toast him...in fact all those guys in their prime would Connors had more heart....McEnroe had more guts...Lendl was uglier...Becker could run and serve better and harder...Agassi was just cooler
