It is not recommended because it can create hot spot which can burn the baby's mouth. I have never heard that microwaving can change the nutrional value. If you choose to microwave the bottles, you need to pick a time that will just barely warm the formula and shake the bottle very well to mix the hot spots with the cold spots, therefore making the formula warm. I have heated my daughter's bottles in the microwave for the last 8 months and have not (Knock on wood!) managed to burn her with it yet. Good Luck and Be Careful!

Well if its already made formula then putting it in the microwave could cause hotspots but i have heated water in the microwave and then poured in the powder when it was done its easier to heat water in the microwave then make the formula because you can test how hot the water is plus add cold if its too hot so my baby was fine with microwave formula she is big at 13 months she weighs 23 lbs and has worn 18 month clothing since she was 10 1/2 months so just always test the temp of the liquid b4 giving it

It is written on the formula boxes not to do it because of the hot spots. When you shake the bottle just after you've made the formula up some of the powder may not dissolve properly and it will get extremely hot in the microwave. Microwaves heat from the centre of the liquid outwards. So you don't know how hot it really is just by feeling the outside of the bottle. I don't think the nutrition changes at all.

You can microwave formula.
.The reason it's better not to microwave it is because, yes, it creates hotspots. However if you give the bottle a shake that will take care of that. Microwaving doesn't do anything to take away from the nutrition in any food. In fact, it's recommended to microwave foods whenever possible since cooking them other ways can cook away the nutrients that are in the food.

When you heat food in the microwave, it continues cooking after the time is up. Even if you shake the bottle with the formula in it and wait a few seconds, the formula continues to cook. If you test the formula on your wrist and it is a comfortable temp and then start feeding your baby your baby may end up with a burned mouth because it continues heating.

I do microwave formula. I take the lid off, nuke it for 25 seconds for 4 oz, replace the lid, and gently shake. Then I test on my wrist. Microwaves do heat unevenly, so it's important to reshake to even out temperature. I don't believe is changes the nutritional content, when I mix up a days worth I use close to boiling hot water, then refrigerate for up to 24 hours. If the boiling water doesn't do any harm, a light nuking isn't going to do harm.

i still microwave my baby bottles...i know they say not to and the reason being the microwave can heat the formula up unevenly and cause hot pockets that could burn your babys mouth....i heat it up in the microwave for a little bit then stir it around....stick it back for a few seconds stir it and serve....i have never had a problem.....breat milk on the other hand is not allowed in the microwave because it destroys the nutrients but that does not happen with formula

Microwaving does create hot spots in the milk - but more importantly, it kills off some of the proteins in the milk that are good for baby. This is the same for either breast milk or formula.

I just microwave the water to heat it up - then shake it - then put in the formula powder - and shake it again. No hot spots, no nutritional changes.
