Do they acutally like them? With all the huge bows and what not?

well they've gotten much better than what i have seen "back in the day". Where we got the ones for my brother's wedding...all of them were very nice.

Three reasons:
1. Some of them actually DO do it to make THEM look better. The wedding is about the bride. So she often wants to make sure no one else distracts from HER beauty. This is especially true for brides have have self-image problems, but it is also traditional for some people.
2. Some people actually LIKE the dresses. Just because YOU think it is horrendous, does not mean everyone else doesn't like it. Different people have different tastes and opinions. So it may just be that YOU don't like the styles of bridesmaid dresses!
3. As with all clothes, some dresses work better with some people than other people. When you are dressing for work or school or a night out, you wear what looks good on YOU. At a wedding, the dresses usually are all the same, but the girls usually are not. A "horrendous" dress might not be so horrendous on the right person.
All that said, my sister came up with the perfect solution for her wedding. She picked out material that she liked and used that as her theme. Then she let the bridesmaids all pick out a pattern for their dress themselves, so they could get something THEY like. My sister gets HER pattern. The bridesmaids get THEIR dresses. Fair compromise, and if you have someone who can do the work, it is a LOT cheaper!

I think the only answer for this question is BAD TASTE & No FASHION SENCE. Big bows may be pretty to some people but very out of date. I feel sorry for the bridesmaids if they get stuck in something with a huge bow on the right shoulder and they look like a PINK marshmellow!

I have seen some atrocious outfits in my time - some women have a poor taste for clothes when weddings come around. The Bride wants to stand out, but they can do that by just doing a decent job of color coordination for the Bridesmaid outfit. Gaudy is not acceptable in my book.

No they don't actually like them, but the bride wants all the attention on her on the wedding day. So she picks something horrible for the bridal party to wear.

Some women like to dress like Scary Monster. This accounts for their horrible taste in fashions of all kinds, not just wedding dresses!

haha I know I know....but I try to look at it this way, God made us allllll different, and for this reason, even THAT bride who picked out the grass green dress with a black bow, is unique in her own way...besides, if we all wore the same pretty elegant bridesmaids dresses, who would we laugh at? lol

Because they wouldn like their best friends to look hotter than they would...
And immagine this: the uglier the bride feels (or actually knows) she is, the uglier the bridesmais dresses will be.
