Should I wait to see if there will be a glitch in the system or assume all is well and go ahead and buy it? And my mom wants a computer with at least 2 gigahertz and 2 cd/cd-rom/dvd drives and with alot of memory for me. Possibly in the 200-600 $ range. Help!
Should we buy one now or wait?

I would buy one now but ask for XP, which is finally a mature technology. If you have a problem with XP there's tons of on line help. I hate to be a pessimist but based on previous experiences Vista will be riddled with problems for a while.

If you have an XP disk, you could get a new computer, format the drive and install XP on it instead. Download all the updates from the net and off you call. Install Vista at a later time. Voila!

Well I would just buy now you will have to wait like another year for service pack 2 for Vista(if you can wait that long). You will be able to upgrade from service pack 1 to service pack 2 when it comes out so just buy now. You might see PC prices going up when Vista is released.

I would steer clear of Vista until at least it's first service release.

Personally I am looking at installing OS X on my intel machine instead of Microsoft's privacy invading, resource hog of an OS. Yes, Windows Vista phones home to Microsoft twice a year to check validity. It's not what the OS is doing while it's checking validity, it's what Microsoft can make it do that scares me.

Good luck
