I wish I could agree with those who said 5-7 years. But its going to be longer than that--morelike 25-40 years. The US is the only country that has the capability to make the attempt (though that is changing). But right now we don't have leaders with any real committment to space exploration, despite the rhetoric--there's no real funding to back up the nice sound-bytes.

properly regrettably, colonising different planets is truly intense priced and impractical. the in user-friendly words authentic opportunities for colonisation in our photo voltaic gadget are the Moon, and Mars. to construct a secure surroundings for massive numbers of human beings on both you may take a lengthy time period, and billions and billions of greenbacks (trillions, contained when it comes to Mars). perchance lets ultimately cause them to financially achievable by technique of mining them, notwithstanding it would want to take a lengthy time period to break even. The moon will be a extreme probability, if governments had the imaginitive and prescient and motivation to collaborate on the challenge, yet Mars is too distant for us in the present day. As for reaching different movie star structures, it would want to take an quite lengthy time period (I.E. various centuries in stasis, or in a deliver with many generations of crew). To do the vacation in a sensible time might want to take far extra power than we are able to manufacturing with present day technologies. the most acceptable power decision might want to be an antimatter engine, yet antimatter is truly puzzling and intense priced to provide, even in small parts. A extra sensible prospect is the idea of installation tremendous area-station colonies that orbit the Earth, and draw power from the solar. that is an possible purpose, although nonetheless puzzling. it would also ease the stress that the human inhabitants and our pollutants is putting on the planet.
