A friend already had her baby a month ago and I need to give her a small baby shower at work. Since her baby is already almost 2 months old I don't want her to get things she already has.

In this case....I think it is okay to discuss gifts prior to the shower. Since it is a small shower....I would have regular invititations and then verbally discuss gifts with those that are able to attend. Maybe you could all pool your money together and get her something big that she does not yet have??

I would include a nice note tucked inside the invite....from you....asking the people invited to contact you in regards to gifting options. Or you could just have a conversation, in person, with each of them.

Most people would probably realize they need to find out what is still needed at this point....and NOT wing it. However, someone may do just that, anyway. And that is why stores accept returns!!

Hey....get a diaper cake! They are perfect for baby showers....it could double as the decoration and one of the gifts. Fill it with the neccesities for the older baby! (teething gel, gas drops, pain rereliever/fever reducer, etc!!!) I make custom cakes designed to match the shower decor!!!

You know, where I live we have a kind of baby shower that people give only diapers (various sizes because the does grow, thank God!), and diapers are always useful, no matter how many of them the mother may already have. Another suggestion is toys or maybe long term objects like bath towels, sheets and pillow cases for the crib, and things like that.

Have her set up a small registry (also put diapers on it in size 1 & 2 not newborn)... and add it to the invites.
Call it a baby Party... alot of people have their showers after baby is born.

It shouldn't matter about the wording...its perfectly normal to have a baby shower after the birth. If it is her work as well...then people will already know.

At the baby shower you should give her baby some clothes because every parent doesn't get tired of receiving clothes and it probably benefiting the child.

Purchase items that you know she can use - bigger size diapers, bigger sized clothes for 6 months and up, baby accessories like penaten cream, baby shampoos, wipes, a paid for photo session of baby - stuff like that.
