my brother bought me a rat as a birthday pressent. but he deliberatly got a male (i know his ways) so that the rat i already have would breed with this male.and therefore the babies get fed to our snake *sigh*- boys. cause my other rat is female.and what he doesnt know is that i went back to the pet shop and told them his little ' plan' and they let me swap the rat for a female. i feel guilty about it and do you think that this is technically still his pressent?? he keeps on asking me when "are your rats going to breed" and "is it getting fatter?" ohh im 15 and he's 17 and he's never ever bought me a birthday present out of his own money before =] so i felt really happy that he got me it =]

Unless I misunderstood you it is YOUR present not his. If HE got it for YOU then You can do whatever you want. Its just like at Christmas if you dont like the present you get and exchange it what ever you replace it with you consider their gift. If you feel bad about it just tell him, that you noticed that he got you a male and that you didnt want your rat to have any babies so you took it to the store and they let you replace it with another female and that you really appreciated the 2nd rat. Just dont tell him that you did it because you thought he was secretly plotting to feed the babies to the snake. Hopefully he will understand and if not you will know for sure he was plotting. If he wants to breed rats to feed his snakes he should get his own breeding pair. I hope you figure things out and I hope it works out for you. Good luck

If he got you the rat for you birthday present, then the rat is yours. One way you can keep your brother from feeding the rat babies to his snake is to keep both your rats separate.

I would just tell him you loved the gift but you didn't want them to breed, so when you found out the rat was a male, you exchanged it for a female. Yes, it is still "his present", a gift from him.

well, you said our snake..right? so this was a present to you. this would help feed the two of you's snake that you both own or care for. so he helped you lower the cost and the problem of going and getting food for your pet. but now, you just have 2 rats that are female. what good is that? other than enjoying them for what they are...pets. i think he had great intensions that would benefit both of you, and you took it back behind his back. ouch. thats like returning your......a girls wedding ring....or grandma sweater that she picked out special for you and likes to see you in. you should get the male back.

a rat was givin to you.you still have the rat.therefore yes it is still your present that you own.tell him one rat might be gay, so they will never have babies aka snake food...it sounds like he tried to oull a fast 1 and caught him.
