I work in an environment where there are PCs and workstations all over the place and emails are just a fact of life.

I am a very sceptical about the way emails have "improved" the working environment and I have made an interesting observation.

Most people will carefully write an email and check the spelling punctuation etc, then alter and edit it, then read it AGAIN, then finally hit the send button.

I am fascinated to note how many people will then check that the email is in the "sent" box, open it and then RE -READ the same email.

When we receive an email it's a different matter. We seem to skim over the words, looking for the juicy bits and can generally get the meaning of it in less than 10 seconds.

But this method of reading documents is inherently flawed, and leads to people's having deficient attention spans.

reading always takes less time than writing.
it is a fundamentally different activity.
think how long an author or jounalist spends on a book or article
compared to how little time you spend reading it.
reading is much faster than writing.

yep that seems to happen, really i dont care about the spelling and punctuation and become annoyed when people tell me that i dont know how to speel and should use spell check blah blah blah really who cares i mean as long as the message is telliagable hahah is that even a word? haha it shouldnt matter
i totally agree people spend way to much time trying to make thier emails perfect it should almost be like speech seeing as how informal most emails are i mean if it was a mortage document or a loan paper i'd speel check it and be neat and concise but the level of effort put in to an email just to say hi is ridiclous but none the less i get chewed out for bing "sloppy"

Then upload chillies, coriander, curry leaves, salt, jeera and combine nicely. Then upload rice flour little by skill of little so as that the aggregate types to a paste. blend should not be very skinny. Then take a ball of blend and pat it on a tawa in a around trend inclusive of your hands. Then pour some oil around and cover it and heat until eventually the backside of roti turns golden brown. Serve this warm with Coconut chutney or sambhar

It takes more number of sensory organs to detect and react to write than to read an email.Writing an email needs to compose an idea,arrange the words and sentences,and to put it in black and white.Reading an email is equal to the eating of readymade foods.

Because you have to think of what you are going to write when writing an email. When reading an email all you have to do is read it...plain and simple as that

it is different for everyone, but some people type really slow, and so they take 10 minutes to write an E-mail. some people type faster, and it only takes them 3 minutes to write an E-mail. its the same for the reading. som people are really fast readers, and some aren't it all really depends on who you are, and how fast or slow you can do things.

Email originators need to stay on point and concisely state the message.
People tend to ramble and babble.

Sometimes its much more effective to speak to the person directly or use a phone [landline]. Unfortunately, most people do not think first.

Because we can interpret a message recieved faster than the required original thought composition of one.
