the all mighty 305 is not really the motor to build alot of hp espically if you a the 200r4 trans . price out a new/used 350ci motor, and a turbo 350/400 trans or a 700r4. the 350 has the same motor mounts bolts right into the engine bay. i f you dont want to go that way i would find a intake manifold that matches your specs do you want idle to 5500 rpm? 1500 to 6500 rpm?what kind of cam street only? than your going to need a torque converter to mach the engine power band. ask your self what you want to do with it? long tube headers help, a hotter ingintion helps at higher rpms, contact jegs or summit or join the montecarlossforums.com thay should be able to tell you.

well you dont really add horse power, you build it. multiple engine components need to work together to actually gain power. Just think of horsepower as you engines ability to suck air in and blow it back out. if your budgets low you can try simple things like installing headers, an aftermarket ignition system, a cold air intake kit or ram air(don't go open element because the air under your hood is hotter and more expanded, while colder air is compressed and decompresses inside your motor when it heats allowing you to force a little more power). these things probably wont show a huge difference on a dyno but you'll feel a difference when you hit the gas. p.s. don't go throwing a giant carb on without supporting mods, it will weaken your motor considerably.

there are many ways of adding horsepower. you could get a custom exhaust done and I would go with some kind of cat-back exhaust. You could get headers. Getting a K&N Cold Air Intake system would give you about 16 plus horsepower. you could go electrically and get a better distributor with better insulated plugwires. theres always turbos and superchargers but then your going to shell out some money.

Performance intake manifold, performance carb, performance exhaust. Check summitracing.com or jegs.com for the parts, and get a service manual to help with the install.

If all else fails, supercharge it. But thats the easy way out, you don't want to do that.
