What are some ways to convince a professor to change a grade from a D to a C?

A student recieved a grade of a D in a Math course. THe student has a very good academic relationship with this teacher. This student always asked for help when he/she needed it. This student also recieved tutoring from the teacher many, many times and the teacher was always patient and helpful. Now after taking the course and recieving a grade of a D. The student realized that he/she needs a grade of a C in order to not to take the course again which would be very expensive and time consuming. THe teacher did all that he could do during the time of teaching the class, and the student did all that he/she could do. How should the student approach the teacher about changing the grade and what should the student say?

Effort should definitely be taken into consideration. If the student made lots of effort (in this case it sounds like it) and completed all the assignments within the given amount of time, then the professor should reconsider the grade. Does the student understand the process and sometimes just makes careless mistakes, or would the student benefit from having the class over again? While it would be expensive and time consuming, if the class is an important one and the concepts still aren't grasped, then the student should take the class over. I would definitely discuss the effort put forth and the actual benefits of repeating the class with the professor.
