I engineered a sacking from a job once as I had a better job to go to - I had to be sacked so the company I worked for would pay me my holiday, sick and time in lieu payments (several thousand dollars). If I resigned they were not obliged to make these payments.
I basically told my boss that I would badmouth the company to every customer I spoke to until he got rid of me - I was gone in two hours.

Found another one.

Fired is hard on you mentally though. I took a couple days and did some things I'd been wanting to do - took my horse and spent 8 hours checking fence (and looking for Indian rock writings) for a large ranch in the area, spent a whole day at a museum, went to the local school and volunteered to read to the kids sometime that week, set up an after school tutoring service, called my grandmother, helped a widow woman in the community redo her bathroom, went to the nursing home and spent two days collecting stories of the "old days" and promptly sold several articles as a result. That relaunched my career. Now I write from home.

I found that helping other people took my mind off my "failure" for being fired and let me feel good about myself and the extra time I had on my hands. I stuffed it so full I ended up doing even less around the house than usual. It's also a GREAT way to network in a positive way. Somebody out there is needing a worker, and this way they already have a positive view of you when you walk in. Most jobs are found by personal reference. This gives you a whole lot of personal reference opportunities.

Go get 'em. This just could be the BEST thing that ever happened to you. I know it was for me - both times. I would have stayed and kept slogging away if my bosses hadn't decided I was redundant. Both times I ended up in positions better suited to my interests, personality, and skills.

Now I'm a freelance journalist, horse trainer, and farmer. I'm doing something different all the time. I get paid to snoop into other people's business. I don't fall asleep at a desk because I have too many outside things to do. The minute I get sleepy or bored, it's out the door I go. Being self-employed means long, long hours sometimes, but I've never been afraid of work. I'm afraid of boredom.

Happy job hunting.

you mean have i ever been fired from my job? yes i have and it took me 3 months to get another one. i never filed for unemployment and i had to go to a temp service people to help find one. but my dad helped me out in getting a job and i have been at the same job for almost 2 years now. getting fired is the worst ever. it makes you feel like you are not wanted or ignorant and stupid and that makes me mad b/c i know that i am not. and no one should ever feel like that. but they were buttholes anyways. so yeah i have gotten fired and it sucked. but i have a better job now and i love what i do!
