i have been studying so that i can be well informed, but how do i know if i am studying the right information????

I do not know exactly what information you are looking for, but www.aka1908.com may answer some of your questions. There may be some members at you church or that may work with your parents that you may feel comfortable speaking with.
Personally, before deciding on any sorority be it Alpha Kappa Alpha, or any other Divine 9 sorority you should be aware of the programs that are implemented at the chapter were you are located and nationally. Being a member of AKA and the other Divine 9 sororities is a LIFETIME commitment. I feel it is worth while, but that is my opinion, you may feel differently. Commiting to the work (yes, it is work) is time consumming. That does not mean that I (or my Sorors) don't have a life, but this is the sisterhoond we CHOSE, so we shall make it great.
So, I charge you to converse with some graduate members (hopefully active) to help your understanding.

Hello, "Ebonee T". Any information provided by reputable Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. websites is worth studying. In doing a web search, on most sites, one of the tabs/links you find is "history" or "herstory". It is there you will find some information on the history of our great organization. Good luck to you!

I agree, what exacty is your intent on studying this organization? I applaud you for going through the ritual of researching prior to your making a decision.
I would recommend that you seek out a person who has experienced the organization first hand as a reference. This in addition to your own observations of the chapters in your area as well as the online research will give you a well rounded view point.
