I'm thinking about going to the navy. Please feel free to share your opinion, give information, or give some advice on whether or not I should go or not.

Serving your country is a great thing, but make sure you speak with someone (besides a recruiter) about their experiences in the navy. If you enter the navy with out a college degree you will start out as a lower enlisted soldier. This means you will constantly be told what to do by people you may be smarter than. Military life is really different from civilian life. The benefits in the military is great if you dont already have any. It is a steady paycheck and you won't get laid off. Some disadvantages could be long hours, and if you aren't happy with your job you can't just find another. If you have a spouse make sure he or she is onboard with your decision to enlist. I am married to a soldier who has been in for 13 years and a third of that time he has been away from home. Just recently he has been away for 16 months in Iraq. Again......this should be a well thought out decision. If you decide to join I thank you in advance for your service.

As a veteran myself, I say go for it. It is a great place to get some real occupational training and being patriotic at the same time. One word of advice... Get your school guarantees before you sign that bottom line, and then study hard if you get a good school.
