Picture this, If you took a real spare tire & put it around you're waist . It's just like that only it's fat.Love handles got there name because When you are making love to some one you can hold onto the loose skin to get better pushing power.

love handles is what most people refer to as the flabby skin in the middle of the torso, on the sides... Most married couples use this term.. b/c there's a saying/thought that when you get married, you "let yourself go" aka gain weight... so the "handles" are there to grab onto during love making.. ;)
