Why do so many prospective UK employers still treat Transsexual job applicants like "Jerry Springer freaks"

Question

Time after time, many Transsexuals find extreme difficulty in finding suitable work for their skills. Large parts of Society, many employers and most work colleagues treat us like some kind of sad perverts. Yet many of us are highly experienced and skilled people in our particular field of expertise.

We are no different to anybody else in society and it's about time others accepted and recognised that in the same way the Government have.

Ignorance is the main culprit it effects peoples opinions, attitude and beliefs. We all should try to educate ourselves regarding people who are more of a minority then a majority but sadly some people won't . We will always have people who are racist sexist and ageist in this world.

Hi, i totaly agree with you and no i'm not transsexual, but i think all people should be treat with respect and no-one should be treat different to anyone else, as long as they are not causing hurt to anyone. No one person is better than another, just because they have more money, look better, wear nicer clothes, or any other reason, we are all the same. Some people just have more luck than others thats all, so comon people give others a break, you never know what the future holds for you and what if it was your child would you want them treated different, i don't think so. I wish you luck for the future and i hope this has showed you that all people do not think like that.

Most people are not prejudiced, of course some people will be, but they are in the minority.
If you try to get a job, and it turns out that you were rejected because of your personal circumstances, then would you really want to be employed by a bigot?
You have to present your skills to you prospective employer, let your skills be the reason you are employed, not your personality.
I suspect that if you fail to get a job, you will believe it is because of your trans-sexuality, it may not be.

I am sorry this has been your experience. I have never worked with a transexual or been friends with one. But there is a lady who lives near me who used to be male.

I often take furtive glances at her but I try not to be obvious as I know that she gets a lot of stares. I am just curious and fascinated.

Maybe the employers you have approached have never met a transexual before.

I completely agree that it's unacceptable to discriminate against anyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, religion etc. However, in most people's sphere of life, transsexuals are not the norm - we simply don't meet people who are like you. Until society as a whole becomes more accepting, sadly, you face discrimination. I wish it wasn't so.

But transexuals are different to the rest of society. I don't know any and most people don't know any, it is a very rare thing. I don't think you are perverts and I have nothing against you but you do have to admit that people will still find it a bit odd. People will treat you differently it's just a fact.

True. Isn't discrimination on these grounds illegal in the UK? Get yourself a solicitor if you have genuine grounds for complaint and sue.
