Time after time, many Transsexuals find extreme difficulty in finding suitable work for their skills. Large parts of Society, many employers and most work colleagues treat us like some kind of sad perverts. Yet many of us are highly experienced and skilled people in our particular field of expertise.

We are no different to anybody else in society and it's about time others accepted and recognised that in the same way the Government have.

It's a sad truth that society evolves too gradually in it's acceptance of people who demonstrate uniqueness. Society behaves like the censor taker whose questionaires have too few spaces to fill in to adaquately record information, or even understanding it . You are lumped, like other minorities into the catergory of being different from what is said to be 'mainstream'

On an individual level, people are taught but seldom educated. Behind the exterior of 'normal' is a mass of neurones that are not plugged in any where and when confronted with the 'new' they are confused. (When this happens it can be a little scary.) They want to put everything into a box in which it is supposed belong. When there is no box, the mass of neurones are busy buzzing ineffectively. You, I, no-one can change them. Only they can change themselves. Some will but of course, not all.

You have to develop a special kind of toughness. Not an aggressive or cynical one, but one that protects you emotionally and psychologically. You have to find people, and not just other transexuals, with whom you feel a belonging and your personal dignity is guaranteed,

Many of us are not transexual but we have had the same challenge as yourself. We know exactly what you are saying because we have had to confront it ourselves, every day and have had to cope with it. If we don't we become damaged and those others won't care. My battle, which you may feel is not so bad, but bad enough for me is being a white caucasian in an Asian country. But I know my friends, and many of them are Asian. The others are just not wired in such a way to make any close relationship possible.

There is more to a job then just being highly experienced. The most experienced person could still get turned down for a job if they spent the whole interview digging in their nose.

That is weird to people the same way transexuals are weird to people. You make think you are no different from anyone else, but you are.

Did you write this question as a rant? Had you notice you didn't put a question mark after it? I suggest if you don't want to be treated like a freak you stop acting like a freak. Grow up. When you choose to live that lifestyle you need to accept the realities of it as well.
This doesn't just go for transsexuals but all other manner of people seeking attention.
We have a lad in our workplace who is a transsexual. He doesn't go flaunting it or dressing extravagantly in order to draw attention. He has proven to be a valued member of my team. If he were to act overly freakish I would never have hired him as public perception is important.

We have a lady who was born a boy working in our department and everone treats her just the same as they treat everyone else. I didn't even know she wasn't born a female till someone told me after I had worked there for a few months and I had had no idea. The knowledge hasn't changed my opinion of her in the slightest.

Why should an employer even know if you are transsexual? If you are telling them, you're opening your own can of worms.

If they find out it is not a firing offense, I should hope.

Why if you feel you are no different do you mention it. There is no law saying you have to tell anyone.
