The US has no 'national language' per se but English is the lingua franca in the States, and in most of the world. But, there are more hispanic immigrants coming to This Great Nation. Is it time the US starts teaching English and Spanish as well as having English and Spanish on all traffic signs and store labels, etc?

Absolutely not. English should be the ONLY Official Language of the United States even though there may be millions of hispanics coming to the U.S. I also have to stress the fact that many of these hispanics are illegal aliens, who have no rights in the U.S. A true immigrant who comes to our country wants to learn the laws of our country and assimilate into American society, whereas illegal aliens do none of the above. If learning English was good enough for every other immigrant who came before these people, then it's good enough for anyone else entering the U.S. today.

Both Canada and the United States should have ONE LANGUAGE ONLY , and that would be English. If the Immigrant be Mexican ,French, Portuguese Or Russian , that is fine with me , Just learn to speak our language . We would have to learn your language if we were to move to your country . If I go to Mexico, they are Spanish speaking, would English be taught to my Kids there. I highly doubt it or any other school in another country unless it was set up as a private English speaking school . The answer is NO.

No. This debate comes up everytime we have a new wave of immigrants, starting back in teh 1840s. What will happen is what always happens--the newcomers will assimilate over time and learn English and American culture and customs. Just as they did in the late 19th and early 20th century--when the proportion of non-English speaking immigrants was several times what it is now.

In other words--granted, we need immigration reform. But as far as language goes, leave well enough alone. It ain't broke--so don't fix it!

No. We speak English in America. If you insist on speaking spanish, there are plenty of countries available. If you would like to come to America, welcome, now start speaking English.

Why are you only choosing spanish? We have many immigrants from many countries. They speak a variety of languages. Only the spanish immigrants refuse to learn the language. Seems to me we shouldn't reward that behavior but instead should punish it.

Are you kidding me? ....and Spanish? This is a joke, right? No, America has one unofficial language, and that is English. I am appauled at how many immigrants come to this country and never make any effort to learn English. It sickens me in fact. As a teacher I teach only in English and refuse to teach in anything other than English.

There are 300,000,000 US citizens in this country compared to 11,000,000 illegals who want spanish as the national language. Sorry, but english has always been and will always be the national language. How hard is it to get into people's heads. If you migrate to this country, learn to speak English. Our ancestors did. Why can't the illegals?

No,,

Back in the 19 hundreds when all the Italians, French, Swedish, etc.migrated from their foreign country's, they where told they had to learn to speak English and become American Citizens.
They didn't change our language for them.
So why do we have to make Spanish our national language now.
Make them learn to speak English and become citizens of our country....What makes them any different then my grandparents..

This Country is going to hell in a hand basket, if you ask me...

You said there are Mexican Immigrants coming here.

No. There are ILLEGAL Mexican Immigrants coming here and we are not going to change the language to cater to criminals. Are you kidding me? If they wish to come to this country, they must change, it is there choice to come here, not mine.

Arizona already passed a law into our constitution that English is our official language and I am happy to say that it can NEVER be amended.
