Most interviewers ask this question but I think it's a hard thing to come up with sometimes. What do or would you say when they ask "TELL ME WHY YOU THINK I SHOULD HIRE YOU?"

I know they're wanting me to sell myself but what should I say. I get nervous & can't think of much.

This a leading question, yet closed ended from their end, and open-ended from yours....It's placing you in the spotlight and it's like "what do you think I should say or what do you want to hear?" Try this:

"Tell me why you think I should hire you?"

Why: Mainly because of how I have presented myself within this interview, my confidence in achieving and prospering within this company, and my willingness to effectively and sufficiently maintain an ethical and profitable work demeanor. (that will not only throw them off, as they have thrown you during the interview, but it is a thought-provoking statement)

Now, this doesn't work with everyone, especially if you know you are more intelligent than the interviewers, you would need to step down your answer and intellect a bit. Good luck and be Safe...(smiles)

I guess you know this question is designed to find out if you know what the job your applying for is all about. They're fishing to see if you've done your homework.

I can tell you how I've answered it in different situations.

For a pen rider job: I know what a sick cow looks like and I have the horses and tack to do it.

For a museum tech job for the National Park Service: I'm young, interested and intelligent. I have the potential to make a career long employee and have none of the negative attitudes older people can develop if they have changed jobs many times.

For a newspaper reporter: I'm part of the audience you're not reaching. I know those people, how they think, and what concerns they have. I'm part of their culture, and I can increase your circulation by targeting them with my articles. Besides, I'm the only award winning writer that's applied. (I had a bit of inside info there!!)

For a horse training job: What exactly are your problems with this horse and what exactly do you want him to do? Part of your first month's fee is for spending a few days here with your horse before you take him home.

I landed those jobs. Three of which I still have. I didn't make a government worker - too many critical thinking skills and too low a tolerance for BS.

They are simply giving you the opportunity to sell yourself to them.
