All's you need is a old wash cloth and a very hot iron, I think steam setting works just as well as no steam. Keep appling until all wax is gone. Now if the wax is very thick use a flat razor and remove as much accessitive wax as possible. And literally that's the END OF THAT.

You would be better off using ice at first, for two reasons.

Once chilled, any excessive amount of wax can be broken off and cleaned away with a vacuum cleaner.

The ice will tend to melt into water, and that will be absorbed by the fibres in the carpet, so that when you go to the next step, and use heat, the carpet fibres will be less likely to absorb the melted wax. You do not want the carpet to be wet, just a bit damp, so remove the ice as soon as you have chilled the wax.

Steam should NOT be used, as it will work against you.

A moderately hot iron offers less danger of burning yourself.

Use a couple of folded paper towels, instead of an old rag...which may or may not be the type of fibre you need for wax absorption.

Place the wadded paper towels against the bottom of the iron before pressing both against the carpet. That allows for heat to get through the towel and transfer to the wax right away. Press lightly against the carpet and the melted wax will be absorbed by the paper towel.

I thought you weren't supposed to answer your own quesitons :)... You're right about the iron method. Trimming carpet fibers works too.
