If you really love the dress and can afford it, go for it! Just make sure it's a place that you can trust. I suggest going to theknot.com and asking around on some of the message boards and find out if the website is reputable.
If you aren't sure you can trust the company, then print out the photos of the dress and take it to a seamstress. Chances are it can be made for less money.
Good luck and congratulations!

I would personally want to try on a purchase that expensive and important before buying it, but ordering a wedding gown online is not unheard of. Especially for people who don't live near any decent bridal shops. Online ordering could be their best or only option.
Some tips that come to mind...
Pay close attention to the measurement chart they provide and measure yourself accurately. Maybe even have a professional tailor help you out with this. And once it arrives, the tailor will be able to alter it for you so it fits like a glove.
Also, prepare for any worst-case scenarios by ordering the gown EXTRA, EXTRA EARLY and making sure the place you buy it from has a GREAT return policy. Sometimes, gowns that look great on the models don't look exactly the same on you, and you won't want to be out all that money if you decide you don't like it.
Good luck and congratulations!

You just run the risk of it not fitting right. Or the fabric not being exactly what you wanted. Something as important as a wedding dress I would be afraid to order it offline.

get your dress wherever you want to get it, but I think you would be better off by physically trying on this all important wedding dress. Thats the problem with internet shopping is you dont get to see it on you before you buy it. Its pretty important that your wedding dress fits EXACTLY the way you want it to and makes you feel the way you deserve to feel on that day... beautiful

Man, all I can think of is the fittings and refittings in the weeks leading up to the wedding. As long as you can find a place to do that for you, why not?

What's wrong with ordering online? You could always have it tailored if it doesn't fit just right.

ordering online is okay but it is better to get it at a store so you have an 100% visual.
