You would have to go to your local court and probably do some paperwork and provide an explanation to the judge why you would want to have your name changed. Names that are obscene, vulgar, and offensive will not be allowed, as well as names that are copyrighted (you cannot legally change your name to "Uncle Sam". It would cost several hundred dollars and take anywhere from a few weeks to a year to have your name legally changed on all your legal documents. It's easier when you are at least 18 years old, I am not sure how it works for minors.

You did not indicate where you live, and that is a determining factor.
In Illinois and some other states, you can legally change your name simply by using a new name, as long as it is not for fraudulent purposes. You do not need to go to court or file any papers.
In some jurisdictions, it is necessary to go to court. An attorney can do it for you at a very slight cost. You can find an attorney you can afford by calling your local Bar Association office and asking for a recommendation. The process is easy, so any beginning lawyer will be able to do the job.

The answer varies from state to state. In my state, you can change your name at age 14. It's an easy process, but you do need to do it through court. With an atty, and including the costs, the price should be about $500. It's not much in atty fees, but in my state the costs run about $300 without atty fees.

You would need to be of legal age. A lawyer is who you need to see & he will tell you what the cost will be. The process of changing your name will no doubt be done in court. I hope you have considered just how much is involved in changing your name. ie: driver's license, social security #, etc. I was going to assme my maiden name after my divorce but after seeing what all was involved, I quickly changed my mind. Having said that, I wish you good luck.
