I am having trouble finding something to wear to a wedding that will be held in Houston in February at 5:00 PM in a church. The reception starts at 7 and goes to midnight.

Most of the dresses I have found are either sleeveless or halter, niether of which I care to wear, or they are black. I know in the past it has been inappropriate to wear black at weddings, but some sources say it is now okay to do if the wedding takes place in the evening. Would an ivory colored pants suit be a good choice? Some sources say that ivory may be too close in color to the bride's gown, however, it is quite evident that the pants suit I am thinking of wearing looks nothing like the bride's gown.

I would say go with the little black dress, tan stockings and black pumps, stay away from the ivory the might not be the bride but it migh be one of the moms....you want to not conflict with the party.

Black is fine for weddings now. Since the reception starts at 7 and goes until midnight, a black dress is appropriate. Ivory would not be a good choice since it is nearly white, the bride's color.

a black pant suit or dress would be more appropriate for early evening wedding. the ivory to me is more day time look to me. It is definately OK to wear black to weddings. it is a more sophisticated take on style.

I've seen people wear black to weddings. And since this wedding is later on, it will be fine.

A relative of my now sister-in-law wore a white dress to the wedding. It still didn't take away any attention from the bride.
