I'm 25, will be 26 soon, and I'm still living at home. I plan on saving as much money as I can while the rent is free. But how old is too old for a girl to be living at home? Especially in the dating scene, is it looked down upon?

FYI- I know what it's like to live on my own, I lived in an apt for 5 years, but when I broke up with my ex is when I moved back in with my parents.

Any one over 18 who is not a full time student is too old. That is why you become of legal age at 18. If you can't be dependent by then, you probably never will. I was working two jobs since the age of 16 learned to save and not live off my parents nor be a burden. I think that is how I survived so well as a single mom of 3 for 6 years. BTW the rent may be free for you but it isn't for your parents. I think there are too many parents enabling their children to not learning responsibility. Why don't you try watching Failure to Launch. Most parents really don't want their grown children living with them. The biggest problem is one parent does not want to cut that cord...in the long run it hurts their parent's relationship. I say grow up and get two jobs to save and let your parents live the rest of their life ALONE

I lived at home longer than I should have.
My mom needed the extra money that I paid her in rent and I just was not ready to handle living on my own til then. I had depression and just couldn't handle stress very well.
I finally moved out at age 25.
I met my husband 2 months later, got married a year later and now 10 years later wonder why I waited so long to move out.
I ended up being fine though. So, move out when you feel ready. No one can say what is best for you. I didn't really date much til I moved out, but my friends were thinking I was a bit odd. I cleaned, cooked, paid 1/2 the utilities and rent, had a full time job and also took care of my much younger sister. I wasn't living in the basement and sponging off anyone.

There is no age limit. I just read a story on MSN news where the oldest woman in history, 67, lied about her age to have a baby. Seems she lived with her mother until she passed away and decided she wanted a baby and told the fertility clinic she was 55 and she had a set of twin boys at the age of 67. She was 66 when her mother passed away. One of my dearest friends is 56 and still lives at home, has lived on his own in the past but the majority of his life he has lived in the basement of his parents home that was renovated as an apartment for him, he has had numerous girlfriends over the years, even living with a few of them but he has never married and eventually move back home. Another male friend 53, has resided in his parents home since birth and has no plans to move out. Several female friends have raised their families from their parents home and now that their kids are grown and moved out they continue staying to help out their parents. I have heard others talk about this and say 25 is the average age in which a child should go out on their own but average may not be what you want, stay as long as your parents want you too.

Usually the age is about 22 when one moves out; unless they're on their way to college so that would be 18-19. I was out when I was 22 and so were my sisters. But I think it also depends on your family, and living situation and your plans. If they are working with you to allow you to stay to save up money; there's nothing wrong with that. You both will actually benenfit from it =) You'll have enough to start living and they won't worry about you maybe "depending" on them anymore. Good luck!

You might try asking your parents that question. They may be praying for the day when they have an empty nest. Believe it or not, us old folks (ie: parents) have lives, too ;-)! If they have no problem with you living at home, go for it. It might be considerate to offer to help out with food and bills, though.

I think living at home is fine IF you are paying rent. Why should your parents be responsible to pay your way?

25. Grow up. Stop using excuses like saving as much money as you can.

There is no exact age. So no you are not to old. It gets rough if you and your boyfriend both live at home since it is hard to find intimate time alone
