Firstly, I realize this question is likely asked very often on here. I've browsed through a lot of past questions and there seems to be many conflicting answers. And there might be for this question, too.

I am kind of clueless when it comes to the actual process of getting pregnant and how best to increase chances of conception. I'm using cyclebeads to track my ovulation, and my partner and I have had unprotected sex quite often for the past few days. We started trying about a week after my last period started. I have very, very regular periods. If an egg got fertilized, how long does it take to "implant?" When should I start feeling symptoms if I truly have conceived?

It's not really a mystery at all. Just complicated because it's not a normal subject we bring up at the dinner table. Read "Taking Charge of my Fertility". I have a copy I can mail you for free. I've got a ton of info, and after two pregancies...I think I've got it down.

The trick is finding your peak day. Unless you find that beads, sticks, and charts won't help. The best thing that helped me was OvaCue. It's made by http://www.zetek.net. It's like a little calculator that takes your temp daily. Then it tells you when your coming up on your peak day. Eventually telling you that today is your peak day. Better than sticks because you know in advance and can make sure there are little swimmers already there when the egg is released. I found it less stressful than charts.

I always felt my symptoms the week before my period was due. This last time I was tired almost two weeks before it was due. I mean exhausted. My symtpoms were like a period was starting, but it never did.

about the time of your missed period is the first time anyone really can notice any change in hormones but usually tiredness is the first symtom and that is hard to determine pregnancy from.

So really it's wait and test, the real symptoms dont hit till about a month after conception for most. when the hormone levels are really rising

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler and these things will never be a mystery again. You will know exactly when you ovulate and when you might be pregnant. These are the things they should teach in high school!
