Low voltage rg-6 cable lines used for tv will not do anything when cut but piss off the lady watching oprah. I dig trenches for water lines all the time and lost count of how many i have snapped. you usually wont even know it untill you hear someone screaching for dr. phil. Just leave the cut cable exposed for the repairman if possible, and call the cable co.. They usually wont charge you if they dont have to go hunting for it or run a completely new line.

Cable tv cables will not hurt you when cut the power going through them is very small. Its no more dangerous to cut through a cable tv line as it is hooking up the coaxial cable into your tv. The lines are routinely cut and spliced without disconnecting them. Just make sure its only a tv cable electrical cables can look similar and be far more dangerous.

The signal carried by the cable is extremely low voltage and low amperage, which is not to say that under extremely rare instances you cannot be hurt by it. But those conditions are so rare that virtually all the time it is safe. The biggest issure is that when it is broken or cut, it may whip around pretty good and might leave a pretty good mark.

Whether you are using a pick, shovel or other digging device this TV coaxial cable generally carries rf (radio frequency) signals unless a booster or amplified signal is applied to it. Generally speaking there is no harmful voltage. If it is needed then forget fixing it, run a new one (splicing can be done but not recommended).
Good Luck ! ! !

You need to clarify whether you are referring to buried television cable or live electrical cable that is carrying electricity into your house..

TV cable is harmless, electrical cable is far from harmless.
