They ask for a $45 fee to join, but it seems reasonable since most clubs require that a membership payment to be due. Is this society legitimate or just a scam? Thanks!

I joined it when I was in high school, the $45 covers your membership and your cords. Plus you get a certificate

We had something similar in High School, but it was called the National Honor Society (NHS) of the USA. However, membership was free. It was a competitive application process and students were rewarded for membership upon graduation. You get a certificate, a member's card and a pretty white sash to wear over your graduation robes. It was nice, even if just for the sash, but I would NOT have paid for it.

This is an organization that will put your name and picture in a yearbook kind of thing and send you a copy of the book. It appeals to people who want to pretend they are being recognized by some Mensa type organization when what it really indicates is that people are suckers and will pay $45.00 for just about anything. Anyone who sends the fee gets in the book! It ain't special, nor is the organization. There is another called the Who's Who of American High School students, same scam, same crap, same suckers. Its meaningless
