Hi, I am currently a Chemistry major and want to switch to marketing. Do I have to continue taking Chem for the semester or can I simply drop it...Ill still have 12 credits without my Chem classes.

You can drop or change your major any time. However, if you drop your classes after the midterm, (or last day to withdraw) you get a WF. A WF is Withdrew Failing, and you do NOT want that on your transcript.

It depends on if you've missed the deadline for withdrawing from courses. That will determine whether you can drop them or not. If they're going to appear on your transcripts one way or the other (if you've missed that deadline), then its in your best interest to finish them and do the best that you can do.

It might also be helpful to use the rest of the semester to make sure that it's what you want to do, and to get approval from the marketing advisor to switch. They have to accept you into their major, after all.

I graduated with a marketing degree, and I make as much money as people here who have no degree and are doing the same thing as me.... Why are you switching. You may really want to think this over... Marketing is one of the most UNUSED degrees out there. Good Luck.

i don't really think it matters if you drop now because you can use the classes you use most likely as electives. i would go talk to someone about your decision immediately so they can see whats best for you. most of the classes yout take during the 1st 2 semesters at least are electives and just basics.

If you don't need the class, then drop it you should be able to. If you are planning on minoring in chemistry though, maybe, you should keep the class. In my school you can drop classes up until the week before finals, talk to your counselors if you are unsure.

ask an academic counsellor. you need to find out if the current courses you are taking can be used as electives for marketting. if not, then drop it. you'll save some money that way.

I'm sure it is too late to get a full refund (unless of course you can still add courses). Your current courses should fulfill elective requirements, and if not, seek a waiver from either your new departments's chairperson or his/her dean.
