ooo, maybe only time will work. I'd use a strong cleaner like lysol or fabuloso (i love this cleaner, smells good and works great taking out the smell of stuff), in the microwave and the surrounding area. too cold to keep windows open but you might have to whenever you're not in the house. Also, maybe burn some incense like nag champa or something like that.

This is amazing because our neighbors came over and used our microwave and totally burnt their popcorn, too.
The first thing you need to do is clean the microwave. Use a hot dish washing mixture and thoroughly clean it.
Afterwards, place an open, fresh box of baking soda in your microwave but make sure you leave your microwave open.
The third task you need to perform is to attach a deodorizer to your air filter. This will eliminate the odor quicker.
Also, sprinkle some carpet fresh throughout any carpet that may have absorbed the odor....
And last but not least.....
Spray your house with Lysol Spray...it will kill all of the bacteria and foul smells in the air and furniture.

Clean the microwave well.
Then take a lemon cut it in half and put it in a bowl or cup half full of water. Microwave for 5-10 mins, wipe the microwave out, repeat.
Hopefully the smell was still originating from the microwave if not, change your furnace filter if you have forced air heating, vacuum your house, use some air freshener, open windows for as long as the weather will allow, and wash the walls if necessary.

Put a mixture of cinnamon & nutmeg, maybe some orage slices...in a pot of water & boil. Your house will soon be filled with a pleasant aroma.
Or you could always try opening all windows & burning an oil.

thats funny... i've done the same thing.
i would usually light some really strong candles and let them burn all day long.
i know its january, but you could open the windows.
dump some carpet fresh around the house and vaccuum.
get some lysol and spray it all over.

I hate when that happens...
You probably have the house closed up, keeping in the warm air for the winter.
My solution, live in the south, where you can open your doors in the winter.
