I was looking at this British website on clothes and things like that, and I saw this real cute necklace, and it was priced at £16.00. I did the currency converter into US Dollars, and it came out to be priced as 31 US Dollars!!! That's quite expensive for a necklace that's not even real!!! So any British folks out there that can anser my question or anyone really who can tell me why the UK is expensive (especially London) then let me know!!! Because I want to live in London someday, and I would just like to know. Thanks.

I am not British but it is an easy explanation. It would be the same effect as say Manhattan or Boston. Most jobs (good paying) are in the major cities. To live in them and have easy access to work will cost more as is shopping, etc. Also you will find more expensive department stores there to sell to the wealthy. Most of the time the closer you are to the city the more expensive it is. Manhattan is very expensive for decent property but people can also live in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island or even Connecticut, but although they are saving on median home pricing, they are having extensive commutes. The country of England is an island with its major (and I believe only) city being London. The higher cost real estate will bring in higher costs on most everything else.
As for costume jewelry well I do not think $31 is very expensive, ever see Avon's stuff not cheap for the cheap stuff they sell. Some people pay hundreds of dollars on fake stuff.

You should look around at the other uk citys before deciding to live in London, it's not as amazing as it's made out to be and expensive (in my opinion)
