I was looking at this British website on clothes and things like that, and I saw this real cute necklace, and it was priced at £16.00. I did the currency converter into US Dollars, and it came out to be priced as 31 US Dollars!!! That's quite expensive for a necklace that's not even real!!! So any British folks out there that can anser my question or anyone really who can tell me why the UK is expensive (especially London) then let me know!!! Because I want to live in London someday, and I would just like to know. Thanks.

Right now, the exchange rate is awful if you live in the US. It is not always 2-to-1. Depending on the economy and other international events, it can fluctuate a lot.

That said, London is an expensive place to live anyhow. It's a big city. That's the way it is. Look at the prices in New York or LA and you'll find the same thing.

it's a big city and they also have very high taxes (national and local) to pay for all the people on the dole...including something called a Value Added Tax, which taxes goods at all levels of production. That combined with the exchange rate, means that your dollars don't go very far anywhere in the UK, much less their capitol city.

The UK isn't just expensive, but US dollars are pretty much worthless. It is expensive in the UK but if you're coming from France or something, it's not quite as expensive as if you're coming from America or Canada... $1 is only worth £0.51 but $1 is worth €0.77 and €0.77 is worth £0.66.
