Yes, there are other programs out there (some free, some commercial) that will let you transfer music to/from your iPod.

Try www.ipodhacks.com or www.ipodlounge.com for information on these, including links to reviews.

Be aware, however, that if you don't use iTunes, you will lose some iTunes Music Store abilities.
