Okay. My parents did not help me go to college, and I have had to have a job every since I was sixteen to pay my bills. It would take me two to three years to even get an associates degree. Anybody have any advice about how to land great jobs without a degree??? Geese, I mean you pay 50k for education, and even if you get a good job, you are in dept from student loans until you are like fifty!!!

Oh, and I am very capable of gettig a degree...it is not that i do not want to be educated, or that I am lazy....I just think that it is ridiculous that you make yourself go into debt until you are fifty, and they start you out at a job level that I already have experienced.

No. But the other side of the argument is there is no replacement for experience. I did college on the pay as you go plan since my folks wouldn't help out either and I wasn't. Since I had already begun a career I was able to tailor my education to the practical applcations that I needed. Land a great job without a degree? probably not. Having a post-secondary degree demonstrates the ability for follow through. 50K for an education?, try more like 100K - 120K.
I do have people that work for me that make 85K/year w/o a degree, but they've been in the industry for 15 years and have proven themselves. I have people that have MSE's and make the same. Both have demonstrated they're worth it.

If you don't mind standing on your feet al day or working at the mall, retail would be a good choice. You won't start off making $12+ an hour, but with a good work ethic and great people skills, you can become a store manager and even work your way up to become general manager or district manager.
One of my best friends is a store manager and makes a pretty decent living. She is wonderful with people, is very outgoing and fashion savvy. And if you ask her - she'll tell you she loves her job and loves the interaction with people.
I also have to agree with Jojo - most jobs prefer some type of college experience. If you would like to go to college, you can always check into theri financial aid programs or get a grant from the government. If you live in a state with a lottery, your state may also have college scholarships that are funded by lottery proceeds. Additionally, colleges now have payment plan programs that allow you to pay in installmets.
Sure it costs money to go to college, but it pays off in the long run. Not only do you have an edge over job seekers, but you also have a feeling of accomplishment and pride within yourself.
Good luck.

You can get a good job without a degree, but many do require it. If you want a job that requires it, you can find a way to get a degree - there are many ways to do this for a truly determined person.
The question is then if you did not get a degree - what did you do to improve your knowledge and skill sets in place of going to college? Jobs that pay more can choose to be selective with their candidates, because they are in high demand. Nobody really wants a bad job, after all

You seem kind of spoiled. The reason you have to have a degree to get most well paying jobs is that they require specialized knowledge that the School of Hard Knocks alone just doesn't teach; that's just the way it is.

sweetie, i hate to break it to you, but even with a degree, its really hard to find a good job. just keep on searching, and really try to wow them in the interviews. i'd recommend leaving out the sob story about how your parents didn't help you with college and having to work since you were 16. There are a lot of ppl that have been in that situation, and still got a degree (myself included), so that's no excuse.

you can get great jobs without a degree, millwright, pipefitter, stenographer, plumber, bricklayer, truck driver and many others.
you can always start your own business. i would try entering a trade.
employers are looking for skills. you get the education to get the skills employers want. in the jobs above you usually can start earning as an assistant before you get to the highest level.

Take the plunge, get the degree. I know a guy with a degre which took him 8 years, but he's so highly paid now that he KNOWS he did the right thing. Get the degree, you'll be glad you did.
