Rand McNally and others make map books (road atlas) where the maps are broken down into pages that help with large print and make it easier for you navigate through the country side. If you are a member of an auto club (and you should be) they will help you plan your trips with custom maps and they are great. But I would suggest that they should used in conjunction with a road atlas. There are also portable GPS units and of course the mapping programs and sites on the internet all pretty good....but can't be trusted 100%.

Get a map book for the area you need, usually are laminated and are easy to take care of. Fold up maps are much cheaper but are a real pain to use, often having to unfold the whole map just to access a certain area, with a book you can just leave it open to the page you need and refer to it when you need to.
