It is 'B' a linear equation, and here's why: This equation can be reduced and solved for 'x':

8x^2 = 5
x^2 = 5/8
x = sqrt(5/8)
x = 0.79

Graph this answer, and you will have a vertical line on the x-y plane crossing the x-axis at 0.79. Therefore, it is linear. Because of the equal sign, it is an equation. A linear equation.

Don't get confused by the x^2, which normally would indicate a non-linear equation. This would only be non-linear if there was also a 'y' variable in the equation. As it is, 'x' reduces to a constant.

This is definitely an equation due to the = sign.
It is not linear because of the term involving x²
Therefore the answer is C) ie an equation which is not linear.
