I have recently started a new job. They are a growing company, with 5 men in the office and me. The thing is, they have no proper procedures. Everything is so unorganised i am suprised they make any money! I really want to impress them and help get the office running smoothly but i don't know where to start. What make the perfect procedure and how do i get them to listen to a female?? Any links would be helpful, any successful directors or managers who can give me advice would be welcomed too. I wanna make it to the top!

Do the filing system. Then create the processes that will keep the filing system organized. Keep shipping, receivng, cash, customers, payables, and receivables separate. If there's an inventory, keep it separate too. If you want to move a product to a customer, what is the process? Sales order/purchase order - picking slip - shipping documents - invoice. If their time is the inventory, treat it the same way.

You can only stretch out as far as the job will allow, but you may have broad resposibilities. Have you looked into ISO? Not necessarily becoming ISO certified, but looking at the standard and answering the statements. Ex. "Records shall be established and maintained to provide evidence of conformity to requirements and of the effective operation of the quality management system. Records shall remain legible, readily identifiable and retrievable." etc. Can you answer this statement as if it were a question? we do it this way. You can find more info at asq.org It considerably helped in organizing and controlling my own business. It also helped to identify areas where we needed more attention and structure, such as product control and customer service.
