The Romans (note the capital R) used to throw Christians into the arena to watch the lions eat them. Pretty deadly. Some of the Christians would sing as they were slaughtered for Jesus Christ.
Marathon running could kill an unprepared person.
They also filled the Stadium with water and had battles for all to see. Do not know if the 'wars' were to the death or not.

well theres gladiators that killed each other(watch gladiator the film its good and will give a good insight)
theres also wars, romans enjoyes wining and one thing they won alot were battles. they most lickly found it a bit of a sport when going into battles

what about the lion pit thing?
