Sure you can if you have enough space to let them run around.
Otherwise they will just jump over the fence and be off.
If you are not heavier than 75kg you will be able to ride on it once it's grown up (at aboutage 3 years). I did at an ostriche farm and it's great fun.
Since they are birds, I am not sure how affectionate they will be as pets, but surely more than a turtle. They may be as dumb as chickens though.
Ostriches can live up to 75 years, so you should make sure who you want to inherit it. This is truly a pet for life.

yes- you need a permit in most states. You can ride them as well, but they are the meanest thing ever. I have seen a lot of supposedly tame ostrichs, and all of them flat out attacked me. One didn't attack- just tried to peck my head when I walked by. Put me in with a tiger over an ostrich- I will escape with less damage.

if you've got a licence. You need a licence to keep an animal like that, who'd want a pet ostrich though :\ thats random!!

No. Ostriches are not domesticated birds & are too powerful & fast to keep as pets.
